Ellisiv Løvold was named "Mermaid of the Year"

During AquaNor 2025, Ellisiv Løvold was awarded "Mermaid of the Year" by the Mermaid Network.

The prize is awarded to a woman in the maritime industries who has distinguished herself through her work, commitment and ability to inspire others.

The jury's statement

In its reasoning, the jury emphasised:

"This year's mermaid is the driving force behind Løvold Havpark in Bodø. The marine park will create green growth in the blue industry - with a heart for the sea. Mermaid of the Year says: "Sustainability is not a project. It's a new way of thinking, living and working. It must be a part of everything we do, and in the choices we make.

This year's Mermaid of the Year is a positive influencer who promotes the marine industries in both word and deed. She is passionate about the development of both the industry and the region she is part of. The Mermaid of the Year is welcoming and inclusive and is particularly praised for the way she meets young people who want to enter the industry."

A role model in the blue industry

Through her work in Løvold Solution and Løvold Havpark, Ellisiv has been a driving force for collaboration, sustainability and development in both the supplier and aquaculture industries. She has a strong commitment to highlighting the community and believes that cross-collaboration is the key to success:

- "This award is a great honour. It's motivating to have your work recognised and appreciated. The aquaculture industry is an industry of the future, and we must continue to work together to find good solutions. I hope the award can inspire more women to get involved and help shape the industry," says Ellisiv.

The mermaid network

The Mermaid of the Year award is part of the Mermaid Network - a national initiative established in 2021 to highlight and strengthen the role of women in the aquaculture industry. The network brings together women from all over the country and across companies, roles and disciplines.

A highlight of the network is the Mermaid of the Year award, which each year honours a woman who has distinguished herself through her work, commitment and ability to inspire others.

- "It's very exciting to get an insight into what the Mermaid Network is doing. I'm curious and I'm looking forward to getting to know the opportunities here," continues Ellisiv, who had no knowledge or relation to this when she was called and told that she had been nominated and chosen by the jury for the prestigious award.

An inspiration for the future

The award emphasises the importance of initiatives that contribute to making the port industry more inclusive, diverse and forward-looking.

- The most important thing we do, regardless of whether we work in fisheries, aquaculture or the supply industry, is that the choices we make every single day are with a heart for the sea!
